Friss i håret: Varför det uppstår och hur du faktiskt blir av med det

Frizz in your hair: Why it occurs and how to actually get rid of it

Frizz is not a sign of bad hair. It is a sign that your hair is seeking moisture. When the hair strand’s outermost cuticle layer is dry or damaged, it opens up to the humidity in the surrounding air and absorbs moisture unevenly. The result is the swollen, undefined hair we call frizz.

Once you understand the mechanism behind it, the problem is easier to solve.

Moisturize from the inside out

The most common mistake is trying to combat frizz with products that sit on top of the hair without actually adding moisture. Silicones provide temporary shine but do not solve the underlying problem. Hair needs moisture inside the hair strand, not a coating on the outside.

Choose a sulfate-free shampoo that does not strip the hair of its natural oils, and follow up with a conditioner that actually penetrates the hair strand. FOAM’s shampoo bars are formulated with organic coconut oil and grapeseed oil, which provide moisture without weighing the hair down.

Handle your hair gently

Friction is frizz’s best friend. A stiff brush, a cotton pillowcase, and aggressive towel-drying create mechanical stress on the cuticle layer and make the problem worse.

Switch to a wide-toothed comb or a soft brush with natural bristles. Pat your hair dry with a microfiber cloth or a soft T-shirt instead of rubbing it. And replace your cotton pillowcase with one made of satin or silk. This reduces friction against your hair during the night and makes a noticeable difference to frizz and shine. The Editor’s Note: Frizz often increases when the seasons change, as humidity levels shift quickly. If you notice that your hair becomes frizzier during autumn and winter, it is a sign that your hair needs more moisture, not more products.

Protect against external factors

UV radiation, wind, and dry indoor air dry out the hair and worsen frizz. During summer, a hat or scarf helps protect your hair from the sun. In winter, dry indoor air can be counteracted with regular deep conditioning.

Scalp massage stimulates sebum production and helps your hair stay naturally moisturized from within.

Frizz does not have to be part of your everyday life. It is your hair’s way of asking for more care, and when you listen, it shows.
