Glycerin description
Glycerin (also known as glycerol) is a true skincare classic and is considered the gold standard for hydration. It is a colorless, odorless, viscous liquid that is most often derived from vegetable fats. As a humectant, glycerin has a unique molecular structure that allows it to attract and retain large amounts of water. It saturates the skin with moisture and helps maintain hydration for many hours. But glycerin does more than just hydrate: it helps transport moisture through the skin’s own water channels (aquaporins) and stabilizes the skin’s own lipids (fats). This strengthens the skin barrier and protects against external irritation. Glycerin also speeds up the healing of dry and damaged skin and helps with the skin’s natural exfoliation process. It is an extremely safe, gentle, and versatile ingredient found in almost every type of skincare product for both the face and body.
