Protective barrier: Candelilla wax
Candelilla wax is a completely plant-based and vegan wax known for its exceptionally protective properties. In a lip and face balm, it forms a soft, invisible shield that effectively locks in moisture and protects the skin from the elements and dehydration. The wax gives the product a luxurious, velvety texture that melts gently into the skin without clogging pores, while leaving behind a soothing and long-lasting moisturizing feel.

Candelilla Wax description
Candelilla wax is a hard, plant-based wax extracted from the leaves and stems of the candelilla shrub, a plant that grows wild in arid areas of Mexico and the southwestern United States. In skincare, the wax is valued primarily for its excellent emollient properties and its ability to strengthen the skin barrier. The wax is naturally rich in long-chain hydrocarbons and fatty acids, which causes it to form a thin, protective film on the skin's surface. This film reduces water evaporation from the skin (known as transepidermal water loss) without making the skin feel suffocated or sticky. This makes the ingredient ideal for caring for dry, chapped lips as well as irritated or flaky skin. Because candelilla wax has excellent stabilizing properties and provides good slip, it is widely used as a texture agent in everything from lip balms and lipsticks to face creams and ointments. The wax gives products a smooth texture and a beautiful shine. Unlike many other heavy waxes and oils, candelilla wax does not clog pores, making it suitable for all skin types, including oily, sensitive, or acne-prone skin.
