Extremely dry hair: tips and treatment for deep care

Extremely dry hair feels different from normally dry hair. It breaks easily, has no elasticity, feels rough even after washing, and does not respond to regular moisturizing products. This is a sign that the hair cuticle is seriously damaged and that the hair needs both moisture and protein to recover.

Here, we explain what causes extremely dry hair, how to treat it, and which products are most effective.

What causes extremely dry hair?

Extremely dry hair occurs when the hair cuticle is so damaged that it can neither absorb nor retain moisture effectively. The most common causes are:

  • Bleaching and coloring: Chemical processes that open the cuticle extensively and break down the hair’s internal protein structure.
  • Repeated heat styling: Daily use of straighteners and curling irons without heat protection evaporates moisture and permanently damages the cuticle.
  • Using the wrong products for a long time: Shampoos with SLS/SLES strip the hair of its natural oils wash after wash.
  • Environmental stressors: Sun, salt and chlorinated water, dry indoor air, and cold break down the cuticle’s lipid layer.

Moisture and protein: both are needed

Extremely dry hair often suffers from both a lack of moisture and a lack of protein. Moisture provides elasticity and softness, while protein provides strength and structure. If you only add moisture without protein, the hair feels soft but still breaks easily. If you only add protein without moisture, the hair feels stiff and brittle. Intensive treatment for extremely dry hair

When hair is extremely dry, a regular hair mask is not enough. You need intensive care with a high concentration of moisturizing and repairing ingredients. FOAM’s Deep Moisture Treat Duo is specially formulated for dry and damaged hair and provides deep moisture combined with nourishing oils.

For even better results, use an overnight hair mask. Longer exposure gives the ingredients time to penetrate deep into the hair shaft.

Change your shampoo immediately

The first and most important step is to switch to a sulfate-free shampoo. FOAM’s Forest Treat is formulated for dry and damaged hair with Glycerin, Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil, and Vaccinium Myrtillus Seed Oil, which provide moisture and nourishment without weighing the hair down. Vanliga frågor

Is there an adjustment period when switching to solid shampoo? +
If you have previously used traditional shampoo containing silicones, your hair may need 1–2 weeks to adjust. During this time, silicone residue is washed out and the scalp’s natural oil production becomes balanced, resulting in healthier, more natural-looking hair.
How long does a shampoo bar last? +
A shampoo bar from FOAM is equivalent to approximately 2 to 3 regular plastic bottles of shampoo. It lasts for an average of 60–80 washes, depending on how long your hair is and how well the bar dries between uses. Depending on how often you wash your hair and how long and thick it is, it may last for different lengths of time.

One tip is to always store the shampoo bar somewhere dry between uses to extend its lifespan. Store it in a dry place on a shelf, in a soap dish, or in our FOAM shampoo bag, which you can hang in the shower.
How do you store a shampoo bar in the shower? +
To make the bar last as long as possible, the most important thing is to let it dry out thoroughly between washes. Store it on a well-ventilated soap dish with drainage, or hang it in a shampoo bag in the shower so the water can drain away.
